Sander Berge is “definitely” the most technically gifted Sheffield United player and has what it takes to play at the elite level.
That is according to ex-Blades goalkeeper Paddy Kenny, speaking exclusively to Football Insider after Belgian outlet Voetbal 24 reported that Man City are ready to swoop for the 23-year-old.
Berge, a 24-time Norway international, signed from Genk in January 2020 in a club-record £22million deal.
The defensive midfielder has featured 12 times in the league this season but is yet to return following a hamstring injury in December.
Kenny raved over the youngster and claimed that he would flourish alongside “amazing” players at City.
“He’s definitely the most technically gifted they’ve got,” he told Football Insider correspondent Adam Williams.
“He’s very good. He’s been out injured quite a bit but when he’s fit and at it, he’s a very good player.
“He runs with the ball well, technically very good. He’s 100 per cent one of the best players in that squad.
“He’s still a baby. You could probably be average and look good in that team.
“Players like that, if you go to Man City and they get under Pep and learn how to play his way, with all those amazing players, you’ve got every chance.”
Interim Blades manager Paul Heckingbottom claims that Berge is nearing a return to fitness.
“He’s at the back end of it, so we’re hoping to get him back involved in training with the players next week,” he told The Star last Friday.
