Sources: Olympiacos submit bid for Sheffield United star Max Lowe

Olympiacos have made a bid for Sheffield United defender Max Lowe, Football Insider understands.

Lowe spent last season on loan at Nottingham Forest and helped the club win promotion back to the Premier League.

A recruitment source has told Football Insider that the Greek side have tabled an offer for Lowe, 25, and are hopeful of concluding a deal.

Olympiacos are owned by Evangelos Marinakis, who is also a majority shareholder at Forest and his performances at the City Ground have alerted Olympiacos officials.

Lowe, who is under contract at Bramall Lane until 2024, scored once and provided four assists in 22 appearances for Forest in 2021-22.

He spent much of the campaign sidelined with a groin issue which caused him to miss two separate blocks of fixtures.

He played the final 16 minutes as Foret earned promotion to the top flight in the play-off final at Wembley on 29 May.

Blades boss Paul Heckingottom claimed as recently as Wednesday (29 June) that the club had received no offers for Lowe.

But he could now become the South Yorkshire club’s first sale of the summer if the new Olympiacos’ bid is successful.

The former England youth player is capable of operating at both left-back and left midfield.

He graduated from Derby County’s academy in 2013 and went on to play for the club 48 times before he joined the Blades in September 2020.

Olympiacos won the Greece Super League in 2021-22 and will enter the Champions League at the second qualifying round in 2022-23.
