Kenny backs Mousset to sparkle for Sheffield United this season after what he saw last week

Lys Mousset can sparkle for Sheffield United in the new campaign after his goalscoring exploits in pre-season.

So says ex-Blades shot-stopper Paddy Kenny, speaking exclusively to Football Insider about the 25-year-old striker’s recent performances.

The Frenchman has bagged three times in two appearances for United, including two goals against Doncaster on Wednesday last week (28th July).

Mousset signed for United from Bournemouth for a then-club-record £10million in the summer of 2019.

He scored five goals and supplied three assists in his first 11 games for the Blades but has netted just once in 35 games since then.

But Kenny claims that the hitman can turn things around in the Championship this season after his stellar showing in pre-season.

He told Football Insider correspondent Adam Williams: “I watched him against Doncaster last week and he did really well.

“He struggled quite a bit with injuries last season and that is probably another reason he didn’t do so well.

“Those three goals in pre-season will have given have a massive confidence boost I’m sure he can bring that into the season with him now.

“At that sort of level, I’ve no doubt he’ll do well, be a big asset and score lots of goals for them.”

Slavisa Jokanovic’s side get their Championship campaign underway this Saturday at home to Birmingham City.

Mousset will hope to get the nod over Billy Sharp, David McGoldrick, Rhian Brewster and Oli McBurnie up front in the manager’s first competitive XI.
