Sheffield United told to terminate Olsen deal in January after development

Paddy Kenny wants Sheffield United to terminate Robin Olsen’s loan deal in January.

The former Blades stopper, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, wants the club to save money and strengthen other areas.

Rome loanee Olsen, 31, has not featured in Sheffield United’s last four Championship games.

He has been replaced by Wes Foderingham, 30, following the appointment of Paul Heckingbottom as the club’s permanent manager.

Despite having three senior keepers in the squad, Heckingbottom, as quoted by Yorkshire Live (16 December) claims the decision to terminate Olsen’s loan deal has not crossed his mind.

However, Kenny has been left disappointed with Olsen and wants the club to send him back to Roma.

“We need the money to strengthen,” Kenny told Football Insider correspondent Ben Wild.

“For me, he’s not been as good as I thought he was going to be.

“For the most part, he has been disappointing. There are a number of goals he’s conceded that I would expect him to save.

“I expected a lot more with him being an experienced Swedish international.

“It’s a tough one. Would you keep an experienced goalkeeper on the bench just in case?

“He won’t want that, I’m sure he would rather go back to Roma.

“If they have the option to send him back and save a bit of money, that could allow us to strengthen another area.

“I would do that because Foderingham is doing really well. It hasn’t worked out for Olsen.

Olsen spent last season on loan at Everton.

He made 11 appearances in all competions.

In other news, pundit ‘sure’ Heckingbottom has been given transfer ‘guarantee’ by Sheffield United ahead of January.
