Kenny stunned as last-gasp Karamoh deal collapses amid ‘strange’ Sheffield United development

Sheffield United “only have themselves to blame” for their failure to pull off a last-minute move for Yann Karamoh.

So says Blades icon Paddy Kenny, speaking exclusively to Football Insider about United’s aborted loan swoop for the 23-year-old Parma winger.

Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano tweeted on 31 August that a medical was underway and that United would soon announce the singing.

But the Championship strugglers were unable to get a deal for the Frenchman over the line in time for the 11.00pm cut-off.

Kenny is mystified as to why the Blades did not get the deal wrapped up well ahead of the deadline.

“I just don’t get why they have left it to the last minute,” he told Football Insider correspondent Adam Williams.

“If they were that desperate to sign him, it would have all been in place.

“With all this stuff with work permits, they shouldn’t have let it get down to the last minute.

“I find it strange that clubs leave it so, so late in the window to get their business done.

“If that’s the reason they haven’t got him, they’ve only got themselves to blame. They’ll be gutted even though they have managed to get four others in.

“But those signings will freshen that dressing room up and give them a bit of a lift. Hopefully, they can start to get some wins now.

“But it’s not like they were trying to sign him for £20m. He was on loan, it wasn’t even a proper transfer. So I just can’t get my head around it.”
