Sheffield Wednesday fans fume at latest Dejphon Chansiri drama – ‘Worst in history’

Sheffield Wednesday supporters have reacted to Dejphon Chansiri’s latest blunder as owner and chairman of the Championship club.

As reported by BBC Sport, the Thai businessman failed to pay player wages on time in March, thanks to cashflow issues.

The Owls finished a largely inconsistent Championship season in 12th place, and played out a 1-1 draw with Watford on the final day of the campaign on 3 May.

Meanwhile, amid his financial mismanagement, Chansiri recently turned down an offer to sell Sheffield Wednesday to an American consortium.

Sheffield Wednesday fans fume as Chansiri oversees another payment delay

Amid the financial uncertainty surrounding the South Yorkshire club, Wednesday boss Danny Rohl could join Rangers.

Meanwhile, BBC Sheffield’s Rob Staton revealed via X on 30 May: “Per sources, understand there has been another delay in payment of wages at Sheffield Wednesday this month. Follows a similar issue in March. Payment was eventually made in April.”

The Hillsborough faithful have been left angered by the news, with one supporter commenting: “How can you turn down an offer for the club when you clearly can’t afford to fund it?”

Another Sheffield Wednesday fan claimed: “It’s not just the players this time either, my son-in-law works there and it’s his wages as well, it’s totally unacceptable!”

Amid the financial uncertainty surrounding the Championship outfit, some players could now be keen to depart Hillsborough during the summer transfer window in search of more stability, unless the Owls are sold.

Star man Josh Windass recently addressed links to Valencia, while he could now be subject to further transfer interest as other clubs become aware of the sorry situation at Wednesday.

Furthermore, with Rohl set to leave the South Yorkshire club, appointing a new manager in the current circumstances could prove difficult for the Championship club.

It could be argued that the German has steered the Owls to second-tier stability despite Chansiri, rather than thanks to the owner’s efforts.

Rohl’s successor, regardless of any prior Championship experience, may not fare as well under Chansiri’s questionable stewardship.
