Sheffield Wednesday fans demand 26-year-old starts v Leeds

By Dominic Toner

Sheffield Wednesday fans believe that Sam Winnall should be named in the starting line-up against Leeds.

The 26-year-old was a substitute in the 2-1 defeat against Brentford and is yet to cement his position in the starting XI since his January arrival from Barnsley.

The Owls travel to Elland Road on Saturday afternoon for a crucial match in the Championship against their Yorkshire rivals.

Wednesday are currently sixth-placed in the league table, while their opponents are above them in fifth on goal difference.

Both teams will be keen to consolidate their place in the play-off positions and will be wary of in-form Fulham chasing them down.

Wednesday supporters have demanded that Carlos Carvalhal starts Winnall for the crucial match.

Here is a selection of their messages on Twitter:

Winnall has managed 12 league goals this season during his time with Barnsley and Wednesday, making him one of the most consistent goalscorers in the Championship.

The Englishman moved to Hillsborough in the January window to help aid the club’s promotion push as they look to finish inside the play-off spots.

He faces tough competition for a starting position in the side as Wednesday have several quality forward options, including the likes of Jordan Rhodes and Fernando Forestieri.

Winnall could make himself a huge fan favourite if he can deliver the goods against Leeds on Saturday.
