Sheffield Wednesday player ratings v Brentford: Midfielder is abysmal

COMMENT By Harvey Byrne

Football Insider rates the Sheffield Wednesday players in their 2-1 defeat against Brentford in the Championship on Tuesday evening.

Keiren Westwood 3 – Caught in no man’s land for the Brentford opener. Needs to do better in a team aiming for promotion.

Liam Palmer 5 – Made some good runs up the pitch, but needed to do a lot better in defence.

Glenn Loovens 4 – Looked shaky on numerous occasions in the defence. Was fortunate Brentford only scored two.

Vincent Sasso 4 – Was less than assured in the back line. Wednesday need Tom Lees back as soon as possible.

Adam Reach 4 – Couldn’t cope with Jota down his side and was beaten a number of times. Also failed to helped his side up the pitch.

Ross Wallace 6 – Caused some problems down the right hand side and was unfortunate to see a goal bound shot blocked by John Egan in the first half.

Sam Hutchinson 5 – The 27-year-old struggled to keep up with a highly energetic Brentford midfield. An improvement needed against Leeds on Saturday.

Almen Abdi 6 – Caused a few problems with some long-range efforts. Looked dangerous at times in an otherwise nonthreatening team.

Barry Bannan 2 – The midfielder was abysmal on the left. Failed to get the better of Maxime Colin on a number of occasions and was rightly brought off at half time.

Jordan Rhodes 5 – Struggled to get in the game upfront. Can’t always blame poor service and while he does usually score goals he still needs to do more up the pitch.

Fernando Forestieri 7 – Should have had a penalty in the first half. Was far more threatening after moving to the left, but unfortunately his goal came too late.
