Sources: Shrewsbury Town agree to sign Blackburn Rovers star Bennett
Shrewsbury Town have agreed a deal to sign Blackburn Rovers midfielder Elliott Bennett, Football Insider understands.
The 32-year-old is out of contract at the Championship club at the end of this month.
A recruitment source told Football Insider that Bennett has been offered a two-year contract that he has accepted from Shrewsbury and is joining on a free transfer.
A much-loved figure on the terraces at Ewood Park, Bennett was made Rovers’ captain at the outset of the 2019-20 campaign.
He has been a central protagonist in the East Lancashire side’s rise from the third-tier to stabilisation in the Championship in recent years.
Bennett grew up a stone’s throw away from Shrewsbury in Telford and retains strong links with the area.

The Wolves academy graduate established a reputation as a jack of all trades during his time at Rovers for whom he made 192 appearances in a five-year spell.
He played as winger, full-back, central midfielder and number 10 in Rovers’ League One promotion-winning season in 2017-18.
A decade earlier, Bennett made two senior appearances as a youngster at Wolves before moving permanently to Brighton in 2009.
He would turn out over 100 times for the south coast outfit before being snapped up by then-Premier League side Norwich ahead of the 2011-12 campaign.
Bennett made 80 appearances for the Canaries with 59 of those coming in the top-flight.
The Shrews have spent the last six seasons in League One and finished in 17th place last term.
