Simeone tipped to confront Klopp tonight after controversial Liverpool reveal via Sky - pundit

Atletico Madrid manager Diego Simeone will have words with Jurgen Klopp tonight after the Liverpool boss took aim at his style of play.

That is the view of ex-Arsenal striker Kevin Campbell, speaking exclusively to Football Insider about Klopp’s controversial comments on Monday.

As quoted by Sky Sports (18th October), the Reds manager revealed he respects Simeone but does not like the style of football his side plays.

It comes as Liverpool prepare to take on Atletico Madrid at the Wanda Metropolitano in matchday three of Group B.

The La Liga champions knocked Jurgen Klopp’s side out of the Champions League when they last met in March 2020.

When asked by Football Insider for his assessment of Klopp’s dig, Campbell said: “Listen, that is his opinion.

“The key is, Diego Simeone plays the way he knows how to win. Let’s be honest, we have seen Atletico Madrid turn Liverpool over both home and away.

“I’m sure Simeone will have something to say to Klopp about that tonight.

“At the end of the day, that style has been successful for Atletico. They are competing against two of footballs giants in Real Madrid and Barcelona. Who brought home the bacon last year? Atletico did. It’s clearly an effective style.

“Tensions are running high because this is a big game tonight.”

Speaking ahead of the game, Klopp said: “That says a lot about the quality of Diego so I couldn’t respect more what they do.

“Do I like it? Not too much but that is normal because I prefer a different kind of football. That’s me.”
