Simon Jordan: I can see Everton making this swap deal with PL rivals
By Amir Mir
Former Crystal Palace chairman Simon Jordan has claimed that he can “smell” Everton making a swap deal involving Romelu Lukaku and Wayne Rooney.
Belgium international Lukaku recently put his future at Goodison Park into doubt after he rejected a new deal with the club.
Lukaku’s contract runs until 2019, but the highly-rated striker did state that he doesn’t want to be remembered for “just scoring goals”, but “winning trophies” too.
Former owner Jordan has claimed that the Toffees will strike a deal with their Premier League rivals United which could see Lukaku move to Old Trafford.
“I can smell a swap deal with some money involved,” Jordan wrote on his personal Twitter account. “Lukaku to Manchester United and Rooney to Everton”.
United forward Rooney is a boyhood Everton fans and he moved to Manchester from Merseyside in 2004 as a teenager.
During his long career at Old Trafford, he has gone on to win the Champions League and numerous Premier League titles.
Furthermore, he has become the club’s all-time leading goalscorer overtaking footballing legend Sir Bobby Charlton.
Under new boss Jose Mourinho, Rooney has seen his game time reduced and a move away from his current club this summer won’t come as a surprise.
Rooney broke onto the scene as a teenager and he is best remembered for his long-range goal against Arsenal when he was 16-years-old.
He is currently out injured, but could return for Mourinho’s side for their Premier League clash against Middlesbrough on Sunday afternoon.
