Sky Sports journalist: Newcastle attacker rejects second tier loan to join former Magpies man
Newcastle United winger Rolando Aarons has turned down a loan deal to Championship side Hull City in order to join Italian club Hellas Verona instead, according to a journalist.
Sky Sports’ north east reporter Keith Downie has claimed on his personal Twitter account that the 22-year-old rejected the Tigers’ temporary offer and will be linking up with former Newcastle coach Fabio Pecchia, who left St James’ Park to join Verona as their manager.
Aarons has been on the very fringes of the Magpies’ first team this season, with just one start in the Premier League among his five appearances across all competitions this season, with a total of 27 outings and four goals to his name.
Football Insider verdict
Newcastle boss Rafael Benitez was reluctant to let Fabio Pecchia depart for Verona but could not stand in the way of a managerial opportunity for his staff member. As such, the Spanish boss will be happy to see Aarons move over to Italy to join his former coach, knowing that the Magpies’ winger will be in safe hands. As for the player, he needs regular game time to live up to his promise and develop into the best player possible. Both Hull and Verona are fighting relegation battles this season but perhaps a spell in Serie A will give him a new approach to the game and he can come back to St James’ Park to compete for a first team role.
