Jamie Redknapp believes that Arsenal should focus less on finishing in the top four, and focus on winning the FA Cup.
Arsene Wenger’s side improved their chances of securing a top-four finish as they beat Manchester United 2-0 on Sunday afternoon at the Emirates Stadium.
The victory means the Gunners still remain in sixth place but they have two games in hand on Liverpool in third, and are just seven points behind.
It’s been a very disappointing season for the north London club so far but it could end with a trophy as Arsenal face Chelsea in the FA Cup final at Wembley at the end of the month.
Speaking on Sky Sports’ Super Sunday, Jamie Redknapp stressed that Arsenal should be more concerned about winning the FA Cup than achieving a top four place.
“You’d rather a win a trophy because you don’t look back as a player and say it was great that year we finished fourth.” he said.
“You can still attract players if you don’t get in the Champions League. Chelsea still managed to sign Eden Hazard without the Champions League and Manchester United still signed Paul Pogba when they weren’t in the Champions League.” he concluded.
Arsenal could win their third FA Cup trophy in just four years with a win over Chelsea and it would make history because they would stand alone as the club with the most FA Cup wins (13).
FA Cup success would also be a personal achievement for Arsene Wenger as it would mean he would become the manager with the most FA Cup victories with seven to his name.
