Sky Sports pundit delivers verdict on Tottenham stature, uses Carrick as example

Stuart Pearce believes Tottenham have a much better chance of keeping their star players as they continue to grow in stature at the top end of the Premier League.
Spurs currently sit second in England’s top flight after their comfortable 2-0 victory over north London rivals Arsenal, 17 points above the Gunners who remain way down in sixth place.
Former Man City manager Pearce believes Spurs have as good a chance of winning the Premier League as any club, and that will tempt the likes of Harry Kane and Dele Alli to stay.
Speaking on Sky Sports News’ Premier League Daily Show on Monday (10am), Pearce believes times are different from the days where Michael Carrick moved to a bigger club in Man United.
“Keeping Pochettino is the key,” Pearce said. “But if you’re a Spurs player, you want to play for them right now.

“For example, Michael Carrick was a natural move to Man United because they were a bigger club. Now, if you’re a Spurs player, you don’t want to play for anyone else.
“It is because Spurs have got a good a chance of winning the Premier League as any other club.”
Spurs have seen their best players leave to bigger clubs in recent history, such as Carrick as well as the likes of Luka Modric, Gareth Bale and Dimitar Berbatov.
But with Spurs sitting in second and only four points behind Chelsea, ex-Man City boss Pearce believes Spurs stars would rather remain in north London as their surge in stature continues.
Mauricio Pochettino has seen his side win their last nine league outings in a row, and will be hoping to make that 10 against West Ham on Friday to reduce the gap at the top to one point.
In other Tottenham news, Ossie Ardiles has revealed he would not change this senior star for anyone in the world.
