Liverpool legend turned pundit, Steve McManaman, has given his verdict on Jurgen Klopp’s hunt for Silverware.
Speaking to the Daily Star, the former Liverpool and Real Madrid winger claimed that it is not a failure for Liverpool, should they fail to win anything this season, as other team’s budgets are higher,
Asked if it would be a failure McManaman said, “No I don’t think so, not when there are big teams spending so much money,
“We all think that Manchester City can walk away with the league,” the former England international added.
However, McManaman did state that this should not discourage the Reds from focussing on the trophies at hand, and believes they should still go for it: “Man City are also favourites for the League Cup so the likes of Liverpool can only really win the [FA] cup or the Champions League.”
McManaman stated that “they should have a right good go for it.”
Liverpool have been tantalisingly close to Cup success under Jurgen Klopp, as they reached the final of both the Europa League, and the League Cup in the same season, losing them both.
Yet Reds fans still hold on to hope, as they will face West Bromwich Albion in the fourth round of the FA Cup, and are also looking forward to playing Porto in the round-of-16 in the Champions League.
McManaman also stated that he believes the Liverpool faithful deserve trophies, something that he himself was able to deliver, and that winning something should be on Klopp’s priorities list in the future: “It is important to give the fans silverware.
“Liverpool need to win silverware at some point.”
In other Liverpool news, the Reds have been handed a boost in their pursuit of this European star.
