Sky Sports pundit makes bold Newcastle v Sheffield Wednesday prediction
By Amir Mir
David Prutton has predicted Newcastle to draw 2-2 with Sheffield Wednesday on Boxing Day at St James’ Park.
Sky Sports pundit Prutton believes the Championship leaders will drop points against the Yorkshire club and as a result lose top spot to Brighton.
Prutton has backed the second-placed Seagulls, who are a point behind the Magpies, to beat QPR the next day on home soil.
Carlos Carvalhal’s side travel to the north east having won four of their last five league fixtures as they currently occupy the final play-off spot.
Ahead of the fixture, former Nottingham Forest midfielder Prutton explained why midfielder Mo Diame will want to produce a standout display.

“Dwight Gayle has absolutely been on fire while Mohamed Diame will no doubt want to leave his mark before heading off to the Africa Cup of Nations,” Prutton wrote in his Sky Sports column. “Having said that, I feel Wednesday have the resilience to go to St. James’ Park and get something.”
Rafa Benitez’ side have won their last three games, scoring eight goals and conceding just one, against Burton Albion at the weekend.
The north east club have won 16 out of their 22 games in the second-tier – they only managed nine wins in 38 games in the Premier League last term.
A lot of those wins is down to the goalscoring form of former Crystal Palace player, Dwight Gayle, who is the top scorer in the division.
He has scored 17 goals in 18 league games, including finding the back of the net and supplying an assist during the 2-1 win at Burton on Saturday.
A win for the away side could see them move up to third, if other results go their way, but a loss or dropped points could see them move out of the top six.
