Sky Sports pundit David Prutton has predicted that Aston Villa will keep up their late push for automatic promotion and heap yet more misery on Paul Heckingbottom and Leeds.
Villa kept their faint hopes of a second-placed Championship finish alive when Jack Grealish hit a late goal to secure all three points against Cardiff on Tuesday.
The result meant they’re just five points behind Fulham in fifth, who themselves are one point ahead of Cardiff.
Leeds season is effectively over, although the drama is still arriving, as Football Insider revealed on Wednesday that the club is set to axe Heckingbottom after a disastrous run of form.
However, Prutton sees no respite for them against a rampant Villa side and he predicts a 2-0 win for the home side.
“What an end to the game it was at Villa Park on Tuesday night!” Prutton said in his Sky Sports column.
“Aston Villa needed a result against Cardiff and Jack Grealish came up with the goods for them with that stunning volley.
“You’d fancy Steve Bruce’s side against Leeds, who just want the season to end. Although Villa have slipped a few times lately when you’ve expected them to go on and win. That being said, I think this is a home win.”
Football Insider verdict:
We doubt even the Leeds fans expect to get anything out of the game on Friday. The season has been wretched and it’s getting worse as it draws to a close. Prutton is right – they want the season over as soon as possible and we can’t see anything but a home win on Friday night. The Leeds fans would love to spoil the Villa party but we can’t see it happening.
