Sky Sports pundit identifies Tottenham fault in victory v Everton
By Harvey Byrne
Sky Sports pundit Tony Cottee has graded Tottenham’s Sunday win against Everton an A minus, stating sloppy defending cost them a higher grade.
The north London club were on their way to a comfortable victory as they entered the final 10 minutes 2-0 up at White Hart Lane through goals from Harry Kane.
However, a Jan Vertonghen error allowed Romelu Lukaku to slot past Hugo Lloris.
The final moments then turned into a nervy affair for Spurs before Dele Alli converted in stoppage time to put his side 3-1 up.
But, the scoring wasn’t over as Enner Valencia found himself with a free header in the Spurs box to take the final result to 3-2.

Cottee shared that it was another great display from Tottenham, but he was also critical of the north London club’s defending.
“Another great display at home by Spurs,” said Cottee, as quoted by the Sky Sports website.
“They needed the opening goal from Harry Kane but after that they were excellent. They’re another team who would have had an A if they hadn’t conceded the two goals, which was a bit of sloppy defending.
“The pressure was on to get the result after Liverpool won, and also to keep up the chase on Chelsea.”
Tottenham’s defending was very much out of character on Sunday as they currently boast the second best defensive record in the Premier League.
The back line including Hugo Lloris and midfielder Victor Wanyama will have been disappointed with the way they conceded the goals.
However, they now have 13 days to prepare for their next league match with Southampton due to the FA Cup tie with Millwall next weekend.
