Sky Sports pundit predicts where Newcastle will finish in the Premier League

Sky Sports pundit Matt Le Tisser believes Newcastle United will be relegated from the Premier League this season, unless manager Rafa Benitez is given the funds to improve his squad in January.

The Magpies are currently without a win in their last eight Premier League matches and are just one point above the relegation zone in 17th place.

Le Tisser believes Newcastle’s current squad is not good enough to keep them in the top flight and tipped them to go down, along with Swansea and Huddersfield.

“My third side are Newcastle, but that is based on the squad they have at the moment,” Le Tissier told Sky Sports.

“If they get some investment in January and can get a new goalkeeper, somebody who is more of a threat than Joselu and maybe a centre-back then that would change.”

Manager Benitez is still to be told what funds will be available to him to strengthen his squad when the transfer window opens in January, with Amanda Staveley’s PCP Capital Partners still engaged in negotiations to buy the club from owner Mike Ashley.

Le Tisser feels Benitez has to sign a new goalkeeper. The club have conceded 26 Premier League goals this season and the Newcastle boss has been swapping between Rob Elliot and Karl Darlow.

He also feels they need a new striker, with the much-criticised Joselu only managing 3 goals in 15 Premier League games.

Newcastle won promotion to the Premier League last season and clinched the Championship title in dramatic style on the final day of last season. However, they face a serious fight to avoid relegation this campaign.

The Magpies travel to the Emirates Stadium to face Arsenal in Premier League action this afternoon.

In other Newcastle United news, the club are to join the chase for this highly-rated attacker, according to a report.
