Sky Sports pundit: This Premier League defensive trio would improve Liverpool

Sky Sports pundit Phil Thompson believes Southampton trio Virgil van Dijk, Ryan Bertrand and Oriol Romeu would improve Liverpool.
The Reds have had some history of purchasing Saints players over the last few season, with winger Sadio Mane being the last player to make the switch from St Mary’s to Anfield.
With the two teams set to meet on Sunday afternoon for a Premier League clash, Thompson named the three Southampton players Liverpool could target in the summer.
The Soccer Saturday pundit stated that he wouldn’t hesitate in buying centre-back Van Dijk, who is highly-rated amongst his peers.
“I’d straight away say Van Dijk, who I have always rated,” Thompson told Sky Sports. “The way he plays the game would make him a perfect fit for a Klopp team.

“Bertrand is another one who would improve us. James Milner has been nothing short of fantastic but he’s not a natural left-back and it’s hard to see any sort of future for Alberto Moreno at the club.
“There might be a bit of interest as well in Romeu, who has had an excellent season and does exactly what it says on the tin.
“He’s a destroyer, he’s got a great attitude and passes the ball very well. If Southampton were interested in cashing in than he’d offer us something we don’t really have at the moment.”
The Premier League defensive trio have been in fine form this season despite their team producing inconsistent performances.
Holland international Van Dijk suffered a season-ending injury earlier on in the campaign but had been a key figure for the club in defence.
Equally, left-back Bertrand, who came through the ranks at Chelsea, has provided the threat in the final third added with the solidity in defence.
The duo have been protected by defensive midfielder Romeu, who played a big part in Claude Puel’s side reaching the League Cup final in February.
For the majority of this season, Jurgen Klopp has used James Milner at left-back, with the former England international playing in an unnatural position.
At centre-back, the likes of Joel Matip, Dejan Lovren, Lucas and Ragnar Klavan have played at the heart of the club’s defence.
