Sky Sports: Rangers closing in on number one target as crucial terms of deal revealed
Rangers named Steven Gerrard as their number one managerial target and are confident they are closing in for a deal as he looks to make the club’s transfer budget a certainty, according to Sky Sports.
The broadcaster’s reporter Keith Downey has claimed on Sky Sports news, as shown on their official Twitter account, that the Gers have had their hearts set on bringing the former Liverpool star to Ibrox after the sacking of Graeme Murty, and that talks are set to continue after his media duties this week.

It is stated that Gerrard will demand clarity on the club’s transfer future, including the planned budget, and that there may even be written assurances as part of the terms of a deal to make him their new boss.
Football Insider verdict
Rangers just do not have the same financial clout as any top flight or the majority of second tier English clubs and so Gerrard will have to know exactly what sort of funds he is going to be working with. Whether Dave King and the rest of the board at Ibrox agree to put their agreed backing on paper remains to be seen, but it certainly would not look good on their behalf if they were reluctant. They have been accused of penny pinching in the transfer market before and that has reflected on the team’s performances, and fans would be fuming if that were allowed to happen again. Gerrard is a born winner and will want to make sure he has the resources at his disposal to change Rangers’ fortunes after years of bitter disappointment. If the chiefs at the club are not willing to commit to that, then they best get looking elsewhere for their new manager.
In other Rangers news, the club’s senior squad has been slammed by a Sky Sports pundit.
