Sky: Tottenham open talks over central midfielder deal
By London correspondent Tony Hughes
Hull have opened talks with Tottenham over a deal to sign Ryan Mason, according to a report.
Sky Sports claimed on their transfer centre blog on Tuesday (5.14pm) that discussions have begun between the two Premier League clubs about a transfer in the final week of the window.
Mason has slipped down the central midfield pecking order at White Hart Lane following the summer signing of Victor Wanyama and the emergence of Eric Dier.
The Spurs academy graduate has been an unused substitute in the team’s opening two matches of the season, a 1-1 draw against Everton and a 1-0 win over Crystal Palace.
This comes after Dier and Moussa Dembele, who is serving a suspension carried over from last season, were Mauricio Pochettino’s preferred partnership in midfield in 2015-16.

The duo featured in a combined 66 games for the north London outfit last season in the Premier League and helped guide Spurs into the Champions League, having finished third in the title race.
Mason, 25, lost his place in central midfield initially through injury last season and subsequently failed to reclaim his starting spot in the side as Dier and Dembele emerged as Pochettino’s favoured duo.
Pochettino signed Victor Wanyama for £11million in June, leaving Mason even further down the pecking order at White Hart Lane.
Mason featured 22 times in the Premier League for Tottenham in 2015-16 but was mainly used as a substitute, coming off the bench on 14 occasions.
The player still has four years left on his current Spurs deal but a move away from north London could prove to be mutually beneficial to both the player and the club.
In other Tottenham transfer news, the club are ready to offer three players in part-exchange to land a Championship wonderkid.
