'Snap their hand off' - Pundit Exclusive: West Ham told to pounce for bargain signing by Monday
Noel Whelan has urged West Ham to pounce at the chance to sign Craig Dawson permanently from Watford for £3million.
The former Premier League striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, has heralded the centre-back for his performances and believes the east Londoners would be stupid to turn down what he has deemed a bargain deal.
As reported by the Sun, Watford have offered the Irons the chance to turn the 30-year-old’s loan move permanent early for a fee of £3million before Monday’s transfer deadline.
It is said the Hornets are willing to sell up this month in order to boost their coffers, although West Ham are under no obligation to strike a deal.
Dawson, who joined the Hammers on loan back in October, was forced to wait until the last game of 2020 to make his league debut for the club but has established himself as a mainstay under David Moyes in recent weeks.
Whelan believes the former West Brom man has proven his worth to the Irons already and suggested £3million was an absolute steal for someone of his quality.

Whelan told Football Insider: “With the way he’s been playing, the character he’s been showing and his leadership out there, £3million is a drop in the ocean, it’s nothing.
“You would snap their hand off for a player like that, for that amount of money and what he brings to the team and the club. Everything seems to falling into place nicely for David Moyes and West Ham at the minute.
“They are on a great run, they’re bringing in some more players, strengthening all the time, getting the best out of the players they’ve got – it must be a really, really happy place at West Ham right now and an exciting place for the players to be involved in as well.
“It’s been a long time since they’ve been there at the top where the air is crisp and now they’re sniffing away at this sense of achievement that Europe is possible.”
Dawson, who has 187 Premier League games under his belt so far, is yet to lose a top-flight match with the Irons after four wins and a draw.
He has the likes of Angelo Ogbonna, Fabian Balbuena, Issa Diop and makeshift option Aaron Cresswell as competition for a place at the heart of the defence.
