'If this happens then I'm done' - Tottenham fans fume at reported transfer development
Tottenham Hotspur supporters are unhappy with the news that their centre-back Jan Vertonghen is reportedly wanted by Serie A giants Lazio.
With rumours suggesting that Stefan de Vrij is close to a summer exit from the Stadio Olimpico, Simone Inzaghi is eyeing up a replacement for the Dutchman.
And according to the Corriere dello Sport, the Belgian international is the man to fill the gap.
However, in light of Toby Alderweireld’s injury-induced absence following the Lillywhites victory against Real Madrid in November, the partnership struck up between Vertonghen and Davinson Sanchez has been integral to where the club now find themselves in the Champions League and Premier League.
Mauricio Pochettino’s side have the third best defensive record in the English top-flight, behind only the two Manchester clubs – with just 24 goals against, Spurs fans know how important the 30-year-old is to that tally.
After joining from Ajax in 2012, the defender’s current deal in North London runs until next summer and Spurs will have to act fast to tie one of their star players to a contract that will see out his twilight years in football.
