Solskjaer told to axe Greenwood for ‘one hell of a player’ to transform Man United – Macca

Frank McAvennie has told Man United to drop Mason Greenwood and replace him with Edinson Cavani.

The former West Ham hitman, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, claims Ole Gunnar Solskjaer should pick players for the here and now.

Man United lost again in the Premier League at the weekend as Leicester beat them 4-2.

However, the Red Devils returned to winning ways on Wednesday after coming from behind to be Atalanta 3-2.

Greenwood, 20, started both games and scored against Leicester while Cavani, 34, came off the bench in Wednesday’s clash.

McAvennie claims the Uruguayan should be starting ahead of Greenwood if Man United want to win the Premier League.

“You have to play for here and now,” McAvennie told Football Insider correspondent Ben Wild.

“That is what wins you games, trophies, leagues. They want to build these young players and I get that.

“But you can’t tell me Cavani is any worse than these guys, he’s the out and out striker Man United need.

“He’s one hell of a player, you can’t argue with him. Greenwood is a future star, for me.

“He’s good, yes, but is he better than Cavani? I don’t think so. Martial is another one.

“How does he get games for Man United? If Ole wants to win he needs to start Cavani.

“He’s a proper striker, a proper handful for defenders.”

Cavani is yet to find the net in five outings this season though he has only started one of those games.

He scored 17 in 39 last season after joining the club on a free transfer.
