Noel Whelan has tipped Celtic to sign a new goalkeeper this week as Ross Doohan nears his exit from the club.
The former Leeds United and Aberdeen striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider correspondent Dylan Childs, suspects Joe Hart, 33, will be the man who ends up between the sticks.
Ross County manager Stuart Kettlewell expects to sign Doohan on a season-long loan deal today.
The transfer would leave Neil Lennon with just two senior goalkeepers going into the new season – Scott Bain and Conor Hazard.
Football Insider revealed that former England number one Hart has been in talks with the Hoops after he was released by Burnley.
When asked by Football Insider if he believed Lennon would sign a new shot-stopper this week, Whelan said:
“I think they will sign a goalkeeper in the next few days.
“You cannot let a number two go without something in the pipeline, it is no different to a striker. They must have something lined up.
“If they are willing to let their backup goalkeeper leave there is definitely something happening in that position.
“Somebody will be coming in and it could be Joe Hart. Free contract, there has been a lot of talk and that might be a signing that is imminent. He can offer them that experience between the sticks.”
The Bhoys had hoped that Fraser Forster would return to Parkhead after a highly successful loan spell in 2019/20 but that deal appears dead in the water.
Celtic’s 10-in-a-row bid will start this weekend at home to Hamilton.
