‘Something’s not right’ with Cody Gakpo after what pundit has seen from Liverpool
Something is not right with Cody Gakpo after a difficult start to his Liverpool career.
That’s according to former Hibernian striker Tam McManus, speaking exclusively to Football Insider about the Dutchman’s form.
Gakpo, 24, is yet to register a goal or assist in his six appearances for Liverpool, all of which have been starts.
Liverpool have been in a poor run of form since returning from the World Cup break, failing to win in the Premier League since the turn of the year.
The Reds now sit 10th in the league.
McManus has not been impressed by what he has seen from Gakpo.
“He came with all of this excitement after his performances after the World Cup but we haven’t seen anything like what we expected.
“You almost haven’t heard anything about him, he’s been anonymous. No goals, no assists, no nothing. Salah and Nunez have been the same, no goals.
“But Gakpo hasn’t even looked like scoring from what I have seen. I haven’t heard anyone raving about him. This was a big-money signing and he isn’t performing.
“Someone has suggested that maybe he joined Liverpool too early in his career, I’m not sure if I agree with that but it is clear that something’s not right.”

Gakpo scored nine goals and registered 12 assists in 14 league starts for PSV before the World Cup break.
Liverpool are next in action against Everton on Monday (13 February).
