'Sorry, there will be more players available' - Celtic Exclusive: Brown reacts to Ajer update

Celtic could block Kristoffer Ajer’s hopes of securing a blockbuster summer transfer – due to a distorted transfer market.

That is according to ex-Tottenham, Man City and Leeds United midfielder Michael Brown, speaking exclusively to Football Insider about how the Covid-19 pandemic may have huge ramifications for top-level deals.

Ajer has made it clear he is keen to listen to offers from the likes of Premier League and Serie A clubs in the upcoming window.

As revealed by Football Insider, the 22-year-old has told his agent to hold talks with prospective suitors over a potential move away from Parkhead.

The well-connected Brown claims it may not be as easy as it previously was for top-level players to engineer transfers.

Brown told Football Insider: “I think any player now thinking about getting a new club – unless you’re clear and obvious, you’re out of contract and you’re on your way out – I think everyone’s going to be twitching thinking: ‘What’s it going to be?’

“Others who want to move, want to do transfers, you’re going to have clubs in different championships saying they’re not going to do any business until we know where we are, even if they think it’s a deal the player would like.

“They might actually say at clubs like Celtic: ‘Sorry, there are going to be more players available because of finances, we’re going to keep our money and wait to see what comes out of it.’

“The Premier League could have that knock-on effect, we could lesser squads higher up. I think players will be looking over their shoulder regarding moves.”

Ajer has two years remaining on his Hoops contract and has so far knocked back the club’s attempts to secure him to a new deal.
