Sources: Aberdeen working to sign Graeme Shinnie permanently

Aberdeen are working to sign Graeme Shinnie on a permanent deal, sources have told Football Insider.

Shinnie’s loan at the Dons expires this summer and the Scottish Premiership club are working hard to agree a permanent deal with parent club Wigan Athletic.

The 31-year-old’s contract at his parent club runs until 2024 after joining from Derby County in January 2022.

The midfielder joined Barry Robson’s side in January and has made 12 appearances and captained the Scottish club in what has been an impressive campaign.

Aberdeen are currently third in the Scottish Premiership table with just two games remaining and are on course for a European spot next season.

They are two points clear of Hearts who are also battling for the final European place.

A win over St Mirren tonight will secure third spot for Robson’s side as long as Hearts fail to win against Rangers.

The Dons boss will welcome Shinnie back into his squad following a four game suspension after he was sent off against Ross County in a controversial VAR decision.

Speaking ahead of the match tonight (24 May), Robson said the midfielder is “desperate” to get back on the pitch but has been “great” behind the scenes during his suspension.

Shinnie has previously spent time at Pittodrie after joining from Inverness in 2015 where he spent four years before joining Derby on a free transfer and then ending up at Wigan as the Dons look to bring him back to the club permanently.
