Sources: Amad Diallo pleads with Man United to allow him to join Sunderland
Man United youngster Amad Diallo has directly asked the club to allow him to join Sunderland this month, sources have told Football Insider.
As revealed by Football Insider, the Black Cats are keen to bring the 19-year-old to the Stadium of Light on a loan deal until the end of the season.
However, the deal is being held up as United want Sunderland to cover most of his wages during the loan stint.
Diallo has approached senior figures at United to try and push the move through with hours remaining in the January window.
The young forward spent the 2022-23 season on loan at Sunderland and was a standout player for the Championship side.
He scored 14 goals and registered four assists across all competitions as he helped Sunderland to a sixth-placed finish.
However, upon his return to Old Trafford, Diallo has struggled to break into Erik ten Hag’s plans.
Diallo signed for United in 2021 for a fee that could rise to £37million, but he has so far struggled for opportunities in the senior squad.

Ten Hag has preferred to deploy Antony and Alejandro Garnacho on Diallo’s favoured right flank, with the Ivory Coast international playing just 36 minutes of first-team football in 2023-24.
He was named on the bench for United’s recent 4-2 FA Cup win over Newport County, but failed to make an appearance.
