Sources: Arsenal set sights on signing Inter star Denzel Dumfries

Arsenal are among the Premier League sides considering a summer move for Inter Milan defender Denzel Dumfries, sources have told Football Insider.

This site revealed on Monday (13 March) that Man United could reignite their interest in the 26-year-old in the off-season – with manager Erik ten Hag a “huge fan” of the Netherlands international.

Chelsea are also long-term admirers of Dumfries but it is believed a move is unlikely after the January capture of Lyon youngster Malo Gusto.

Ben White looking focused for Arsenal

Natural centre-back Ben White has done a stellar job as Arsenal’s first-choice right-back this term.

However, it is believed Mikel Arteta is eyeing an out-and-out right-back with Champions League participation on the cards for the Premier League leaders in the 2023-24 campaign.

Inter are struggling financially and those troubles mean the Serie A giants could be forced to accept a lower fee for Dumfries than they expected.

Sources have told Football Insider that a bid of between £40-50million could be enough to prise the right-back away from San Siro this summer.

He could be a number of players sold by Inter – whose finances have been hurt by the imminent free transfer exit of Milan Skriniar to Paris Saint-Germain.

Dumfries has registered two goals and six assists in 31 appearances as a regular starter for the Nerazzuri this term.

The 42-cap defender, who earns a reported wage of £54,000-a-week until June 2025, has also impressed at the international level for the Netherlands at the European Championships in 2020 and the World Cup in 2022.

Arsenal

Takehiro Tomiyasu was the first-choice right-back for Arteta’s side last season but has managed just a handful of starts in the 2022-23 campaign.

Back-up defender Cedric Soares left on loan for Fulham in January ahead of his contract expiry in June 2024.
