Sources: Aston Villa plotting two January forward signings

Aston Villa are keen to add two attacking players in the upcoming January transfer window, sources have told Football Insider.

Villa’s ambitious owners are ready to bankroll Unai Emery yet again in the new year as they look to capitalise on their strong start to the 2023-24 campaign.

It is believed the Midlands giants are ready to bolster their top-four credentials by moving for two additional attackers in January.

One potential target is RB Salzburg star Oscar Gloukh, who has recently been added to the shortlist at Villa Park.

Football Insider revealed on Monday (11 December) that Villa see the Israel international as a player with “top potential” and want to prise him away from Austria.

He has already racked up 41 games for Salzburg since joining in January, notching eight goals and seven assists – including two strikes in the Champions League.

The two-footed 19-year-old primarily plays as an attacking midfielder but can also feature in a deeper midfield role and as a winger.

Villa are also plotting a January move for an out-and-out striker despite the stellar form of Ollie Watkins this term.

Watkins, 27, has hit 13 goals in 23 games this term but is the only senior forward option at the club presently.

Jhon Duran is also on the books but is just 19 years old and is yet to be trusted with a Premier League start.

Aston Villa sit third in the Premier League after 16 games and are just two points adrift of league leaders Liverpool ahead of their next clash against Brentford on Sunday (17 December).

The Midlands giants have also qualified for the Europa Conference League’s knockout stage – which will take place from February.
