Sources: Aston Villa set sights on signing Dean Henderson in new twist
Aston Villa have identified on-loan Man United goalkeeper Dean Henderson as a potential replacement for Emiliano Martinez, sources have told Football Insider.
Sources told this site last month (24 March) that Henderson, 26, has accepted he has no future at Old Trafford and wants a permanent exit this summer.
The England international has spent the 2022-23 season on loan at Nottingham Forest but is currently sidelined with a thigh injury.
Meanwhile, Villa shot-stopper Martinez is attracting interest from elite clubs in the aftermath of his World Cup success with Argentina in Qatar last year.
Football Insider revealed on 20 February that Atletico Madrid, Inter Milan and Juventus are among the clubs interested – with Real Madrid also believed to be admirers.
The 30-year-old has gone public with his desire to compete at the highest level and win more silverware.
Aston Villa are in a strong negotiating position with Martinez’s contract set to run until the summer of 2027.
Meanwhile, Henderson’s deal at Man United expires in June 2025 and is worth a reported £100,000-a-week.
He has turned out 20 times for Forest this season, conceding 33 goals and keeping six clean sheets.
Sources told this site last month (26 March) that Steve Cooper’s side and Tottenham are keen to sign Henderson from Man United in the summer window.
Spurs are set to be in the market for a first-choice shot-stopper this summer as they prepare to sell 36-year-old club captain Hugo Lloris.

Villa sit ninth in the Premier League and could make a late assault on a European berth following their 2-0 win over Chelsea on Saturday (1 April).
Unai Emery’s side face managerless Leicester City on Tuesday (4 April).
