Sources: Atlanta and Istanbul Basaksehir join Bristol City in race to sign Leeds defender Douglas

Atlanta United and Istanbul Basaksehir have joined Bristol City in the race to sign departing Leeds United defender Barry Douglas, Football Insider can exclusively reveal.

The left-back, 31, will leave Elland Road for good when his three-year contract comes to an end on 30 June.

An industry source has told Football Insider that MLS outfit Atlanta and Turkish big guns Instanbul are trying to steal a march on Bristol City for Douglas’ signature.

There is also interest in the Scotland international from a number of other Championship clubs.

They have spoken to Douglas, while he has also held talks with Nigel Pearson’s ambitious City side.

The experienced left-back, who turns 32 in September, has just completed a fine loan campaign at Blackburn Rovers.

He was a regular starter for Tony Mowbray’s team, accumulating 29 starts across 32 appearances in all competitions as they finished 15th in the table.

Rovers have yet to signal their interest in a move for Douglas, as they prepare to welcome Harry Pickering.

The Lancashire outfit signed the left-back from Crewe Alexandra in January before loaning him straight back for the rest of the campaign.

Douglas has extensive experience in the Championship and Scottish Premiership, and has also had spells in Poland and Turkey at Lech Poznan and Konyaspor.

Douglas suffered injuries and mixed form during his three years at Leeds, where he was not able to match the heights of his outstanding 2017-18 campaign at Wolves.
