Sources: Big update on Newcastle and Kalvin Phillips deal after £7.5m fee demand
Newcastle and Juventus are the current frontrunners to sign Kalvin Phillips from Man City next month, sources have told Football Insider.
Pep Guardiola’s side have informed the midfielder that he is free to find a new club in January and the player has made up his mind to leave and seek regular game time.
The Magpies and the Italian giants have expressed interest in the 28-year-old and sources have told Football Insider that they are both in pole position to secure his signature.

Tottenham, who are in the market for a central midfielder this winter, are also lurking in the background for the England international.
Phillips is more likely to leave the Etihad on loan rather than in on a permanent deal in January, although any buying club will need to pay a hefty fee.
Football Insider revealed last week (16 December) that Everton were quoted a £7.5million loan fee by Man City last summer to take Phillips for the season.
The Toffees were also told they must pay the entirety of his wages, which are believed to be in excess of £140,000 a week.
The same would apply to the several clubs that are vying for Phillips’ signature now, even though the loan fee will have reduced by around half.
He has made just 31 appearances in all competitions since his £45million move from Leeds United in 2022, racking up 318 minutes this season.
Newcastle have struggled with a crippling injury crisis this season and have also been without £55million man Sandro Tonali, another defensive midfielder, due to his 10-month ban for gambling violations.

They sit seventh in the Premier League table following their surprise1-0 loss to Luton Town on Saturday (23 December) and next face Nottingham Forest on Tuesday (26 December).
