Sources: Big update on Wilfried Gnonto departing Leeds United after new talks
Wilfried Gnonto will remain at Leeds United this month despite interest from the Premier League, sources have told Football Insider.
Speaking to the new edition of Football Insider’s Insider Track Podcast, transfer correspondent Pete O’Rourke revealed the Whites want to keep the Italy international to help their promotion push.
As revealed by Football Insider (20 January), West Ham United had been favourites to bring Gnonto back to the top flight with manager David Moyes a huge fan of the pacy winger.
However, a January exit now looks off the cards for the 20-year-old following new talks with manager Daniel Farke keen to keep hold of threatening talent in the squad.
Gnonto was the subject of strong interest from Everton, who reportedly submitted a £25.7million bid in the summer.
He attempted to force a move following Leeds’ relegation last season and was made to train away from the first team.
However, he returned to the fray and has since racked up 21 appearances in the second tier.
He has only managed one goal and one assist across all competitions and has made Farke’s starting line-up in just seven Championship matches.
Georginio Rutter and Crysencio Summerville have thrived in the attacking areas, meaning Gnonto has predominantly been used as an impact substitute.
Leeds remain active this month in their attempts to bolster their squad for the second half of the season despite not bringing in any fresh faces to date.
Sources have told Football Insider (24 January) that they have opened preliminary talks about a loan-to-buy deal for Everton star Ben Godfrey.

Leeds sit fourth in the Championship table after their 2-1 win over Preston North End on Sunday (21 January).
They are next in action against fellow proportion chasers Norwich City on Wednesday evening (24 January).
