Sources: Big update today on Liverpool bid to sign Gvardiol
Red Bull Leipzig defender Josko Gvardiol is no longer considered a top target at Liverpool for the summer transfer window, sources have told Football Insider.
The Reds are in the market for a new centre-back and are huge admirers of the 21-year-old Croatian, but deem his asking price too expensive.
It is understood that RB Leipzig are demanding a financial package close to £80million including add-ons and bonuses – a fee the Merseyside club consider unrealistic.
Gvardiol has emerged as one of the brightest young talents in Europe this season and still has plenty of clubs interested in a permanent move this summer.
Man City and Tottenham have also shown interest in signing Gvardiol this summer, although Spurs seem to share Liverpool’s opinion that Leipzig’s price is unrealistic and not worthwhile.
Gvardiol has been a key player for the German giants, making a total of 36 appearances across all competitions in 2022/23 to help Leipzig up to fourth in the Bundesliga table.
After slowing their interest in Gvardiol, Liverpool have set their sights on other centre-back targets.
Football Insider sources revealed on Friday (21 April) that Liverpool are set to go head-to-head with Tottenham for the signature of Evan Ndicka.

The Eintracht Frankfurt defender’s contract is set to expire in the summer and he is set to be bombarded by contract offers – including from the two Premier League giants.
This site’s sources also revealed that Chelsea loanee Levi C.olwill has been made a summer target after Liverpool scouts were impressed by his performances at Brighton this season.
