Sources: Birmingham City star Friend in advanced talks over new contract
Birmingham City are in advanced talks with George Friend over a new contract, Football Insider understands.
The left-back, 33, signed an initial two-year deal when he joined the Championship club from Middlesbrough last year.
A Birmingham source has told Football Insider that negotiations are progressing well over a new deal for Friend and all parties are expecting an agreement.
The defender made 28 appearances in all competitions for Birmingham last season.
26 of them came in the Championship as the Blues finished 18th in the league.
Friend’s St Andrews career got off to a flying start as he played every minute of the club’s first eight games of last season.

His side only lost twice in that run as he helped to keep three clean sheets.
Injury then followed and he struggled to break back into the side.
Friend only made eight appearances after January and wasn’t included in Birmingham’s squad for the final day of the season.
He captained the side against Manchester City in January’s FA Cup clash though his side were beaten 3-0 at The Etihad.
As it stands, that is the only occasion Friend has captained the side.
Birmingham have already completed the signings of Jordan Graham, Ryan Woods and Chuks Aneke this summer.
All three arrived on free transfers ahead of next season starting in August.
Before joining Birmingham City, Friend spent eight years in the North East with Middlesbrough.
He made 299 appearances for Boro with 24 of those coming in the Premier League.
