Sources: Bolton Wanderers agree to sign Rochdale ace Morley

Bolton Wanderers have agreed a deal to sign Rochdale midfielder Aaron Morley, Football Insider understands.

The 21-year-old is in the final six months of his contract at the League Two club and they have been forced to cash in on him this month.

A recruitment source has told Football Insider that Bolton have beaten multiple EFL rivals to agree a deal for the defensive midfielder.

He is set to put pen to paper to finalise the move in the coming days.

This news comes after Rochdale boss Robbie Stockdale confirmed on Saturday (8 January) that the club had accepted “good bids” for two players.

Morley has scored two goals and registered two assists for The Dale this term, including a long-range screamer in the FA Cup against Plymouth.

The midfielder’s contract at Spotland is set to expire at the end of this season.

Born in Bury, Morley came through the ranks at Rochdale.

He made his competitive debut for the club during a 2-1 EFL Trophy win over Notts County in October 2016.

The youngster penned professional terms at the club in March 2017, just days after his 17th birthday.

Morley enjoyed a breakthrough season at the club during the 2019/20 season, scoring five goals in 32 appearances.

The midfielder was a virtual ever-present for the Lancashire side last term, scoring three and registering seven assists in 50 games.

Bolton Wanderers sit 17th in League One following their promotion from the fourth tier last season.

Ian Evatt’s men are just three points clear of the drop zone after 23 games.

The League One side have already completed the signing of Accrington Stanley striker Dion Charles this month.

The Trotters face Wycombe in league action tomorrow.

In other news, Bolton Wanderers have made moves to sign another young midfielder.
