Sources: Bordeaux submitting £15.4m bid for Celtic star Edouard

Bordeaux’s new owner has sanctioned a £15.4million bid for Celtic star Odsonne Edouard, Football Insider can exclusively reveal.

The French club have joined the Europe-wide race for the Celtic striker ahead of Tuesday’s transfer deadline.

A French source has told Football Insider that Bordeaux’s new owner Gérard Lopez is ambitious and is pulling out all the stops to land Edouard.

The Celtic star has held talks with multiple Premier League clubs this summer, as well as several overseas, but has been unable to agree terms.

He has just 12 months left to run on his contract and Celtic are running out of time to recoup any of their £8million investment.

Edouard will be free to negotiate a pre-contract move with foreign clubs in January if he stays at Parkhead and does not sign a new deal.

Football Insider revealed on 14 August Bordeaux’s Ligue 1 rivals OGC Nice were the latest club to show an interest.

Lopez saved Bordeaux from the brink in July but is yet to make any permanent additions to the squad.

The club have not won any of their opening three games of the season and have added three players, including two left-backs, on loan.

Edouard has been a shining light in his four years at Celtic but the arrival of Kyogo Furuhashi this summer has seen him pushed to the periphery.

He has scored three times and provided an assist in 10 appearances this season, but half of those have come from the bench.

The Frenchman has scored 86 times and provided 39 assists in 178 games across all competitions for the Hoops.

The 23-year-old moved to Parkhead from Paris Saint-Germain, initially on loan, in 2017 before the move was made permanent the following summer.

In other news, a Celtic summer signing has been tipped to play a big role in toppling Rangers.
