Sources: Burnley in advanced talks to sign player for £6m

Burnley are in advanced talks to sign Bristol City midfielder Josh Brownhill for £6million, Football Insider can reveal.

The Premier League club are working on a deal for the 24-year-old following his impressive form in the heart of the Championship club’s midfield.

A Burnley source has told Football Insider there have been extensive discussions with Bristol City over the transfer of Brownhill and there’s growing confidence a deal can be agreed.

Brownhill is said to be happy and settled at Bristol City but eager to test himself in the English top flight.

The central midfielder has been a mainstay of Lee Johnson’s side and key to their chase for promotion from the Championship this season as they sit just one point behind the play-off places.

The Englishman has started 26 of the Robins’ 27 league matches this campaign, scoring five goals and producing two assists.

Intriguingly, he was not even in the squad for the weekend win against Wigan Athletic, a clear sign his future is in major doubt.

It was the first league fixture he has missed for City since November 2018.

He joined the Championship outfit from Preston North End in 2016 and has clocked up 158 appearances for the club.

Burnley are on a wretched run of form that has plunged their top-flight status in some doubt.

They currently sit 15th in the English top-flight, just four points above the relegation zone following their 3-0 defeat to Chelsea at Stamford Bridge on Saturday afternoon.

In other Burnley news, it can be REVEALED that the club are plotting a move to sign 18 goals/assists playmaker this month.
