Sources: Carlisle United plotting to sign Rangers ace Josh McPake
Carlisle United have joined the chase for Rangers attacker Josh McPake, Football Insider understands.
The 20-year-old spent the second half of the 2021-22 campaign on loan with Tranmere Rovers in League Two in England.
An Ibrox source has told Football Insider that Giovanni van Bronckhorst will now look at him pre-season after being impressed with his attitude since returning from his loan spell with Tranmere.
McPake has two years left to run on his Ibrox contract after signing a new three-year deal last summer (2021) and has vast senior experience after his loan spells.
Football Insider reported last month (4 May) that Scottish Championship side Raith Rovers had set their sights on singing McPake from Rangers.
He has amassed 62 senior appearances across all competitions, including one for Rangers.
Steven Gerrard handed him his Gers debut in a 6-0 win over St Joseph’s FC of Gibraltar in Europa League qualifying in July 2019.
He spent the first half of the 2021-22 season on loan with Morecambe in League One but struggled for minutes due to an injury before moving to Tranmere in January.

The Scotland Under-21 international scored once in 14 League Two appearances for the Merseyside club.
He fell out of favour towards the end of the season and played just 12 minutes of football in the final eight games of the season as Tranmere finished ninth, just two points outside the play-off places.
