Sources: Celtic favourite Dembele likely to agree Premier League move

There is a “good possibility” of Celtic favourite Moussa Dembele returning to the Premier League this summer, sources have told Football Insider.

The 26-year-old’s Lyon contract is set to expire next month – meaning he will be one of the most attractive free agents available in the upcoming transfer window.

Football Insider revealed in February that Aston Villa boss Unai Emery is a “big fan” of Dembele and tried to sign him in January.

However, the striker was not interested in making a move mid-season and will instead have his pick of sides in the off-season.

The likes of Bournemouth and Leeds have also shown an interest in Dembele – with any potential signing contingent on avoiding relegation to the Championship.

Dembele leaving Lyon for free is a blow for Celtic, who were set for a sell-on fee if he left the Ligue 1 side for cash.

He has notched just three goals and one assist in 27 appearances this season – but has struggled for starts after the return of Alexandre Lacazette last summer (2022).

The forward is no stranger to English football, having scored 19 goals in 64 games for Fulham in the Premier League and Championship.

Dembele was also a key man for Celtic, netting 51 goals in 94 appearances for the Parkhead side.

The former France Under-21 international currently earns a reported wage of almost £70,000-a-week at Lyon.

Eighth-place Aston Villa could have European football to help lure their targets to the club this summer.

Football Insider revealed last month (10 April) that Emery’s side are planning to sign two A-list forwards this summer after losing Danny Ings in January.

In other news, Celtic fear Ange Postecoglou has already decided leave Parkhead.
