Celtic have had a new loan bid for Shane Duffy accepted by Brighton, Football Insider can reveal.
The Hoops are set to finalise the signing of the centre-back, 28, in the coming days after coming to an agreement with the Premier League club over the structure of the deal.
Sources at both clubs have told Football Insider that Duffy has made it clear he wants to sign for Celtic above rival suitors West Ham and West Brom.
But the stalemate has now been broken and Celtic are confident of completing the temporary signing in the next 72 hours.
It will be a major coup for Neil Lennon, who has made it clear he wants a proven centre-back as his side chase a historic 10-in-a-row.
Brighton have given the green light for the Republic of Ireland international to leave even though they are expected to trial a new three-man defence next season.
Graham Potter has a wealth of centre-back options, with skipper Lewis Dunk, Adam Webster, 2019-20 Leeds loan sensation Ben White earmarked to start the season.
Duffy has made it clear he wants to be playing regular first-team football and the door opened for Celtic and Premier League sides to swoop.
As revealed by Football Insider, Hoops chiefs met with their counterparts from Brighton for fresh talks last Monday.
Duffy is set to join on a season-long loan, although there may be a release clause in January.
