Celtic are in advanced talks to appoint transfer guru Nicky Hammond as their new director of football, Football Insider understands.
Scottish champions Celtic are looking to bring in a proven operator to head up their recruitment team after Lee Congerton left the club in May to link up with their former manager Brendan Rodgers at Leicester City.
A Celtic source has told Football Insider that with ex-West Brom and Reading transfer supremo Hammond has emerged as the club’s top target to fill the role vacated by Congerton.
Discussions are taking place at a senior level for him to work alongside Neil Lennon as they plan a major rebuilding of the squad.
Hammond has been out of work since leaving his role as West Brom’s technical director last April after just two years at the Hawthorns.
The former Arsenal goalkeeper has been working as a director of football since 2003, when he took up the role at Reading and went on to twice help them win promotion to the Premier League, in 2006 and 2012.
Celtic are expected to be busy in this summer’s transfer market with players coming in and going and they want an experienced operator to oversee the process and Hammond fits the bill.
In other Celtic news, it can be REVEALED that one of the club’s Scottish players has agreed terms with club giants as he’s set for sensational transfer.
