
Sources: Charlton Athletic agree to sign Bournemouth star Gavin Kilkenny after Stoke City deal cancelled
Charlton Athletic have agreed a deal to sign Bournemouth midfielder Gavin Kilkenny, sources have told Football Insider.
The 22-year-old will undergo a medical at The Valley after being given permission to complete the move.
Kilkenny has spent the first half of the season on loan at Stoke City, but his loan has been cancelled to allow him to join Charlton.
The Republic of Ireland Under-21 international made just four appearances during his loan stint at Stoke.
Bournemouth have cancelled his loan with the Potters as they want the midfielder to be playing more first-team football.
The midfielder has publicly admitted that he doesn’t want to be “forgotten” and expressed his desire to play more regularly.
He was on the bench for Stoke as they advanced to the fifth round of the FA Cup against Stevenage – but now looks set to drop down to League One to fulfil his wishes.
The Republic of Ireland Under-21 international made 14 appearances for Bournemouth in the Championship last season but was deemed surplus to requirements following their promotion to the Premier League.
Kilkenny, who can play in defensive midfield as well as in a more attacking berth, is out of contract at the Vitality Stadium in June 2025.
Bournemouth have been active in the January window since the big-money takeover of the club by American investor Bill Foley.
Dango Ouattara and Antoine Semenyo have arrived on the south coast for big fees this month – while goalkeeper Darren Randolph has joined on a free transfer.
