Sources: Charlton Athletic agree to sign Middlesbrough star Browne

Charlton Athletic have agreed a deal to sign Middlesbrough attacker Marcus Browne, Football Insider understands.

The former West Ham man, 24, is back to fitness after recovering from an ACL knee injury last January and Boro are happy to let him go in the current window.

A recruitment source has told Football Insider that Charlton have beaten off interest from a number of clubs to agree a loan deal until the end of the season for Browne.

The transfer is set to be completed ahead of the weekend.

Addicks boss Johnnie Jackson is looking to add to his side’s attacking options for the second half of the campaign.

This is Jackson’s first transfer window in charge of the club and has already lured Chuks Aneke back from Birmingham City.

The London club have not scored more than once in a game since their 2-0 win over Cambridge United last month (11 December).

Browne would provide further firepower with 10 goals in 45 League One games for former club Oxford United.

He has recovered from an ACL injury but is yet to make a matchday squad for Boro this term.

Charlton

Football Insider reported last week (14 January) Sheffield United were monitoring his progress ahead of his potential move.

Instead it is Charlton, who sit in 15th in League One, who have won the race for his signature.

In other news, Kevin Campbell has told Arsenal to ‘beat Spurs’ to the ‘brilliant’ signing of a Middlesbrough star after a Sky update in the last 72 hours.
