Sources: Chelsea explore move for £70m Man United target Lautaro Martinez

Chelsea are keen on Inter Milan striker Lautaro Martínez and have looked into a potential deal this summer, sources have told Football Insider.

It is believed the World Cup winner, 25, will be available for around £70million this summer and has been identified as a real target for the Stamford Bridge side.

Incoming boss Mauricio Pochettino has also mentioned a possible move for Martinez during talks with the club as the finishing touches are applied to his expected appointment.

Sources have told Football Insider that Pochettino has hailed his countryman as one of the best strikers in world football – and the Argentina international has shot up the list of targets for the London side.

Inter are keen to offload players this summer in a bid to raise finances for their own spending in the summer window and a deal for Martinez is something it is believed they would be willing to discuss with clubs.

The striker has been in red-hot form this season and as revealed by Football Insider on Monday (1 May), Manchester United have also been tracking him as they search for their own new number nine.

However, Chelsea are now keen to join the race for his signature after a glowing endorsement from their next manager.

Martinez has scored 23 times across 48 appearances in all competitions this season.

The forward has also made 48 appearances for his country, netting 21 times on his way to two major honours with Argentina.

He turned out six times in a triumphant 2022 World Cup campaign.

Napoli striker Victor Osimhen has also been loved by the Chelsea board following his glittering form in the 2022-23 campaign.

However, his £130million valuation and continuing talks with financial giants Paris Saint-Germain are continuing to make a deal difficult.
