Sources: Chelsea turn attention to Ruben Amorim after dazzling interview
Sporting CP manager Ruben Amorim is “one to watch” for Chelsea as they look to replace sacked boss Graham Potter, sources have told Football Insider.
Amorim was interviewed by Chelsea last autumn before Potter’s appointment, and the 38-year-old highly impressed Blues chiefs during the process.
Football Insider revealed on Monday (3 April) that the Blues have made contact with ex-Bayern Munich boss Julian Nagelsmann – and he is the first choice to land the vacancy.
However, it is believed that Amorim is viewed as “one to watch” if Nagelmann cannot be tempted to take the Chelsea hot seat.
Chelsea want to make an appointment as soon as possible – but are willing to seal a pre-agreement for a new boss to take over for the start of the 2023-24 campaign.
Ex-Benfica player Amorim masterminded a two-legged victory over Arsenal in the Europa League last month – winning on penalties at the Emirates after drawing 3-3 on aggregate.
He is highly regarded within the game and is seen as a future elite manager.
Football Insider revealed last month (20 March) that Amorim is on the radar of managerless Tottenham as he is ready for a job in the Premier League.
Spurs have also made contact with the representatives of Nagelsmann – but he fears taking the Lilywhites job could damage his career.
Chelsea sit 11th in the Premier League and are 12 points adrift of a top-four berth with just 10 games of the 2022-23 season remaining.

The only route into next season’s Champions League is likely to be through winning the competition this term – with Real Madrid lying in wait at the quarter-final stage.
Bruno Saltor, who was part of Potter’s staff when he arrived in September, has been placed in interim charge of the club.
In other news, Football Insider updates with Chelsea set for face-to-face Mateo Kovacic talks.
