Sources: Conor Hourihane undergoes Derby County medical today after quitting Aston Villa
Conor Hourihane is undergoing a Derby County medical on Tuesday (5 July) after agreeing a deal, Football Insider understands.
The League One club have moved for the Republic of Ireland international, 31, and have beaten Championship clubs including West Brom to a move.
A Derby source has told Football Insider that Hourihane is completing medical tests before putting pen to paper on a contract with the club.
Hourihane is a free agent after his Aston Villa contract expired at the end of June.
A West Brom source told Football Insider earlier this summer (19 May) that they had registered their interest in the midfielder who Steve Bruce signed at Villa.
He has spent the last 18 months out on loan in the Championship with Swansea City and Sheffield United who finished in the play-offs in 2020-21 and 2021-22, respectively.
At Sheffield United, his penalty was saved in their shootout defeat to eventual winners Nottingham Forest in the semi-finals.
Derby County have been busy rebuilding their squad since David Clowes’ takeover was completed on Friday (1 July).
Liam Rosenior has replaced Wayne Rooney as manager and has already signed Tom Barkhuizen, Joe Wildsmith and Nathaniel Mendez-Laing on two-year contracts from Preston and Sheffield Wednesday, respectively.

Hourihane will offer vast experience and previously earned promotion out of League One with Barnsley as they won the play-offs in 2015-16.
He has played almost 500 domestic career games, including 31 Premier League appearances for Villa.
